Head of Software Engineering

Job openings within E25Bio.

We are looking for the Head of Software Engineering

E25Bio, rapid diagnostic innovators backed by MIT’s The Engine and Khosla Ventures, is seeking an experienced Head of Software Engineering. You will be at the cutting edge of building a venture-backed company from the ground up, working with an incredibly eclectic and talented team of science and business leaders all while providing diagnostic solutions for COVID-19, dengue, Zika, and whatever comes next. This position reports directly to the Lead Engineer and will involve extensive communication with users, scientists, and key stakeholders.

Please apply if you’d like to:

  • Work in a business that has a strong social mission. Our technology can literally save lives.
  • Design products for underserved communities.
  • Build your ideas into useful tools that will be used by millions of people.
  • Have fun and make a difference

Here’s what this job isn’t:

  • We are small, nimble, and crafty. If you need a place where all the rules are spelled out in advance, we are not a fit for you.
  • All rewards, no risk. We are an early–stage venture backed startup and we expect to share in the upside of hard work.
  • We are like a sports team, each of us has unique roles and responsibilities, but we’re coordinated in the goals we’re tackling.

You will be expected to collaborate extensively with the scientists and engineers on the team, and support lab activities.

Actual Job Description

As the team’s first full time Software Engineer you will be responsible for building out ideas from functional requirements, developing those ideas into industry grade solutions, and solving rapidly changing problems on the fly. You will translate the vision into code and code into solutions.

Specific responsibilities

The Head of Software engineering has the following specific responsibilities:

  • Develop new software packages that reflect the end user’s requirements
  • Interface directly with the clinical team, lab scientists, and key stakeholders.
  • Own technical software roadmap and be expected to report out on a regular basis.
  • Identify key hires and grow the software team through Series A funding.
  • Rigorously define functional requirements based on input from colleagues.
  • Maintain market awareness for competitive software suites in this field.

Requirements

A successful candidate for the Head of Software engineering position needs to meet the following requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience developing front and backend software
  • 2+ years taking lead on developments including owning timelines
  • Have, at minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience (Advanced degree preferred)
  • Experience working with early stage startups, and an efficient communicator who is capable of fluidly moving between different subject areas and project foci.
  • A strong fundamental understanding of software development best practices and the ability to write clean, concise code
  • Experience in a heavily regulated, preferably medical, field

About E25Bio

Fever syndromes account for over 1 billion episodes annually and are one of the most common reasons to seek care worldwide. For the nearly 3 billion people who live in the equatorial belt a high fever can signal the onset of potentially deadly infectious diseases. We diagnose fevers with simple, yet robust Rapid Diagnostic Tests. Existing solutions rely heavily on centralized laboratory equipment and trained staff, cold chain for specimen transport, and hub-and-spoke reporting mechanisms for data. Our innovations aim to provide people with a much simpler alternative: to identify infectious diseases in time to avoid serious complications and death. Through early and accurate screening, we can help equip the right patient with the right treatment at the right time.

Founded by Dr. Irene Bosch, Dr. Bobby Brooke Herrera, and MIT Professor Lee Gehrke, E25Bio is a Tough Tech company at The Engine (MIT) in Cambridge, MA, where our office and laboratory is located.

E25Bio is committed to providing equal employment opportunities in all employment practices. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, citizenship status, marital status, age, disability, protected veteran status, sexual orientation or any other characteristic protected by law.
