As a PhD student, Herrera developed T-cell based diagnostic tools for Zika, Dengue and Ebola viruses that where implemented in local hospitals and labs.

As a PhD student, Herrera developed T-cell based diagnostic tools for Zika, Dengue and Ebola viruses that were implemented in local hospitals and labs. Now, he is the cofounder and CEO for E25Bio, Inc. which aims to develop affordable, rapid diagnostic tests for patients. In 2019 he was named Forbes 30 Under 30, Healthcare.

He earned a Bachelor of Science, New Mexico State University; Master of Theological Studies, Harvard Divinity School; Ph.D. in Biological Sciences in Public Health (Immunology and Infectious Diseases), Harvard University.
